Program Coordinator II – IT


San Diego, California. Candidate must currently live in the greater San Diego County region or be willing to relocate within the first 60 days of hire.


Seeking a high-energy, detail oriented, safety focused Program Coordinator to be part of an established professional services team providing program management services to investor owned gas and electric utilities. We provide clients with overall program management of complex system protection deployments in electrical transmission and distribution substations and circuits. Successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills across all levels of the business environment including engineering, construction, and executive teams. Ideal candidate will have 5+ years previous experience working in a regulated utility or regulated project environment.


Successful program coordinator candidate will be a key member of a dynamic team providing direct support to Program/Project Managers. Facilitate cross-functional cooperation between dependent tasks and projects, identify risks/issues, develop mitigation solutions. Responsible for administrative and operational project assignments involving detailed planning and tracking of schedules, budgets, procurement, action items, meeting minutes, file management, and process improvement tasks. Position involves office and field deliverable activities, including survey and QA/QC reviews in high voltage electrical substations, test facilities and corporate campuses. Focus and commitment to safety is paramount.


Reports to Program Manager, Project Manager or Team Lead. Work is highly collaborative in nature


  • Assists in defining project scope, goals and deliverables
  • Analyze business cases, ensures completeness and correctness
  • Monitors project progress and provides administrative guidance on project execution
  • Maintains project organizational chart and communication with all stakeholders as required
  • Identifies and raises issues and risks, recommends actions required to resolve
  • Coordinates and tracks schedules, organizes meetings
  • Attends meetings, creates and distributes minutes, tracks action items and deliverable follow-ups
  • Collects and analyzes project data, prepares project progress reports
  • Reviews, codes and submits for approval monthly vendor invoices
  • Manages projects typically low in complexity, size, scope, budget and impact
  • Maintains knowledge of all safety regulations and recommend improvements


A combination of experience, education, and/or training which substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • 5+ years previous experience working in a regulated utility or regulated project environment
  • Principles and practices of project management as defined by PMI or accredited standards
  • Principles and practices of the assigned project area and related fields
  • Waterfall, Agile and Scrum project management methodologies
  • Safe working practices, codes, and regulations as applicable to the assigned projects
  • Research methods, including data collection and analysis
  • Contract negotiation tactics and strategies
  • 5+ years hands-on experience with MS Project, Primavera (P6), or equivalent scheduling tools
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office suite such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and OneNote
  • Experience in project planning, scheduling, cost management, budget forecasting and risk qualification, quantification, and mitigation
  • Established track record with proven ability to work within a fast-paced corporate environment
  • Valid driver’s license


  • Bachelor’s degree in Project or Business Management ideal. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or another field acceptable with customer approval
  • In lieu of Bachelor’s degree at least two years of significant project management experience 2-3 years’ experience providing direct project coordination support to Program or Project Managers
  • Active CAPM or Six-Sigma green belt certification required


  • Excellent verbal and written communication, demonstrated testing expected prior to engagement
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills in day-to-day and under-pressure
  • Ability to influence others and convey complex project and program deliverables in a concise manner across multiple teams and all levels of management
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational, planning and follow-up skills
